Live a little

Growing up, monotony was an anathema. Every bit of doing the same thing , over and over again. Waking up and feeling the rush -Not of passion, but of the honking and the crowd. Today, it is but a lifestyle. Growing up was never going to be a milieu. We waited to grow up , every time the cricket ball went over our heads. Every time our proverbial rivals -our siblings/ cousins grew taller than we could muster. With each time we had a test to study for , wishing we could swap with our parents who earned money and watched TV in the evenings.

But , how quickly it’s all changed for us..

This morning , realisation dawned – The thing I coveted as a child , dreaded during those glorious years of college.. Adulthood. Today, the refrigerator in our old apartment bears my name in ownership. The time to steal its contents, however , eludes me.

The elders could say, the circle of life, or use any other cliché – as is the norm. There is hope yet , however. For writers to write. For singers to sing. For speakers to speak. And for those of us who don’t know what drives them, to drive off.. Into a sunset or a sunrise that brings them the calm. Beneath all the cacophony , there’s hope because there’s calm.

Sometimes , we get so busy making our lives that we forget to live them! Laugh. Smile. Spill your coffee. Play pranks. Travel. Read. The only thing I’d ask .. Is to live , at least a little. If not, in between the flashing lights and the circumambulation, life will pass us by.
